‘Twist and Pulse’ from Britain's Got Talent

George Mitchell School hosted a Home Office ‘This is Abuse’ campaign event to raise awareness about ‘being in the know about relationships’. The event involved the dance duo ‘Twist and Pulse’, runners up in Britain’s Got Talent 2010 and ambassadors for the ‘Diana Award Youth Charity’.

George Mitchell School hosted a Home Office ‘This is Abuse’ campaign event to raise awareness about ‘being in the know about relationships’. The event involved the dance duo ‘Twist and Pulse’, runners up in Britain’s Got Talent 2010 and ambassadors for the ‘Diana Award Youth Charity’.

 

The Home office campaign aims to raise awareness among teenagers about what constitutes abuse and violence in their relationships.  The campaign addresses consent, sexting and abuse. A discussion workshop was filmed, and will be released on ‘YouTube’.

Ashley Glazebrook (aka Twist) said, “The students were so enthusiastic about the whole thing.”

Glen Murphy (aka Pulse) added “It’s great to see how much knowledge the students had of the subject.”

Filming took place on Wednesday 26th February, in the Drama studio at George Mitchell All-Through School and was supervised by Ms Claire Henderson, George Mitchell School’s Social Inclusion Manager, who said, “It was a great opportunity for students to participate in key topics and discussions, and with the bonus of seeing how a professional film production is put together.”

After filming, the students were treated to a dance routine by Twist and Pulse.

George Mitchell Student Mya Ellick, year 10 said, “It was really interesting and there was a great vibe from Twist and Pulse” Another Year 10 Student Ediz Mustafa said, “It was the best day of my life! I learnt that if you’re ever abused or bullied, you’re never alone. You can talk to your teachers.”

Headteacher Saeed Hussain is thrilled that George Mitchell School hosted the event. “Students were really excited to see two celebrities in their school and there was a real buzz about the place.”
