CHILDREN have been picking up tips from top basketball coaches at a sports course hosted by a local school.

The Summer Basketball Camp at George Mitchell School in Leyton, proved a big hit with pupils who sharpened their skills during the fortnight-long programme.
David Lavinier, head coach of the Eastside Eagles, helped train the youngsters.
He said: “The main aim of the basketball camp is to advance the skills of boys and girls to a higher level and to teach young people how to maximize their potential in life, using the principles learned in the game of basketball.”
Students participated in mini games designed to strengthen key areas of their game, and also competed in tournaments and three-on-three games where prizes were awarded.

Thirteen-year-old basketball fan John-John Davis, from Chingford, was one of the children to benefit from the training on offer.
He said: “I love shooting, and it’s a great way to make new friends.”
