PUPILS and staff at George Mitchell School in Leyton have celebrated the opening of a new state-of-the-art multimedia building.

It comes after the Government awarded it specialist status as a 'Media Arts' school.

The new 'Hub' structure at the site in Farmer Road includes a high-tech digital video and photography studio - complete with a green-screen for special effects.

It also features a music recording studio and a specialist room for making animations.

Chair of Governors Dr Mumtaz Zafar opened the new facility at a ceremony attended by dignitaries including council leader Chris Robbins and MP John Cryer.

Dr Zafar said: “We are thrilled to be able to offer our children and young people world class facilities in the heart of Leyton.”
