Thirteen schools across Waltham Forest took part in a special awards ceremony event at Walthamstow assembly hall.

Thirteen schools across Waltham Forest took part in a special awards ceremony event at Walthamstow assembly hall.

George Mitchell School’s Jake Steadman, year 9, received a certificate and medallion from the Jack Petchey foundation for his work to combat bullying and was said to show a caring and sensitive attitude to other students who are victims.

Jake Steadman, 13 said, “It was a great evening, and I’m really proud of my medal.”

Winners were nominated by staff and fellow pupils at each school which also received £200 towards equipment. 

Geoff Walker, Mayor of Waltham forest, attended the event. He said: “The young people from Waltham Forest are wonderful and they deserve all the encouragement they get.”

Cllr Maria Pye, cabinet member for the children’s service said “It is fantastic to see such a wide range of achievements from the young people of Waltham Forest. It was a wonderful evening celebrating and recognising their hard work and talents.”
