Library & Learning Resource Centre

Welcome to George Mitchell Library.

We at George Mitchell School believe the most important thing we can teach children today is a love of reading for pleasure. With so much emphasis on learning, reading for pleasure can be left behind as a treat only for the very young. It is because of this that we feel a library should be at the centre of every school.

A library should be a hub for learning, a place where reading is positively and actively promoted. It should be a centre where new technologies and book-based resources complement and reflect each other and enrich the curriculum. Our library aims to meet the needs of all students and teachers, having an "open-door policy" that welcomes everyone

This is what our Year 9 students Sairash said:
“Here at George Mitchell school library we have loads of adventurous, terrifying, magical and breath-taking books that we love to read. It’s an enjoyable and relaxing place were students can revise, play chess, talk and do homework. The believable books can take your mind away from any stress your having (especially year 11) into a mind-blowing fantasy world and gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are. There are fun activities that go on like the book fair, world book day and party’s when it comes to Christmas time or end of year”

This is what Zahraa said: (Head Girl KS3)
“Most people see a library as a place to read or a place to research things for homework…not our library…yes you can do all those things but you can also explore, go on a never-ending adventure (well I suppose it ends when the bell rings) but apart from that you can also experience a twisted, crazy ride of emotions while also gaining very important knowledge on how to defeat a wizard or how to build incredibly high tree houses.” Since our library has improved our journey of adventure has too! We are able to explore new worlds of witches and wizards, educate our self on how to get through the troubling teenage years and even fight for people’s rights even when we are faced with immense danger.
