Shakespeare for schools and families at the Broadway

Here is some information about Shakespeare-related shows coming up at the Broadway both during the summer holidays and later in the year during Autumn Term. 

Shakespeare Untold
Date: 24 July
Times: 2pm and 6pm
Tickets: £10 all tickets 

The stories you know from the characters you don’t. This family-friendly series comes from London's world-renowned venue, Shakespeare’s Globe. In The Party Planner’s Tale, the story of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet is retold through the eyes of the Capulet Ball's party planner. The Pie-maker’s Tale retells Shakespeare's goriest tragedy, Titus Andronicus, as seen from the kitchen of Titus’s pie-maker. Each performance includes both stories. Recommended child age: 5-16 

The Tragedian
Date: 15 October
Times: 7.30pm

Being staged as part of Black History Month, The Tragedian is a one-man show about Ira Aldridge, the first actor of colour to play Shakespearian roles.  It’s an inspiring tale about following one’s dream against all the odds, refusing to be constrained by class or colour and of someone who contributed to the debate on humanity and the abolition of slavery, as well as making substantial financial contributions to this cause. The show is a compelling piece running just over an hour.  It’s a mix of dialogue, physicality and song, with a live music underscore, taking the audience on a journey through aspects of Ira’s life.  It will be followed by a Q&A. Recommended child age: 14+ but can be enjoyed by younger children too.

 Romeo and Juliet
Date: 4 November
Times: 1.30pm and 7.30pm

 Immersion Theatre presents an exhilarating adaptation of William Shakespeare’s iconic, Romeo & Juliet. Boldly relocating the action to 1980’s England, this tragic story of forbidden love and bitter rivalry promises to be a gritty, visceral and highly accessible spectacle infused with heart-break, danger and comedy perfect for both the seasoned theatre-goer and budding literary enthusiast. This production is slightly abridged to make is more accessible for younger audiences. Recommended child age 9+
