Textiles students at Newham College

Our Year 10 Textile Students had the opportunity to attend a Fashion & Tailoring workshop at Newham College East Ham Campus in June. They worked alongside Industry Specialists to design for a real catwalk show.

The Design Brief required them to make an item of clothing using recycled materials. Our students were able to develop and enhance their making skills by working in a Design studio with access to industrial tools and equipment. The workshop encouraged them as Young Designers to consider the impact that 'Fast Fashion' can have and how waste materials can be converted to new materials.

Some of their work will also feature on the catwalk at the Newham Open Evening Show on June 30th. Exciting times!

Jaynab: "I thought this trip was really beneficial at teaching us how the industry really works. I really enjoyed remaking and creating a new wearable outfit from an old pair of trousers that I was not going to wear again. It was thoroughly enjoyable!"

Kidist: "I had a really good time and I enjoyed revamping an old fashioned shift dress into a trendy two piece!"
